It’s exam season

Published in Education on 2nd May 2017

It’s exam season and in a country where almost every other student is either an engineering or medical aspirant, the number of candidates appearing for engineering and medical entrance exams is growing year by year. The IIT JEE, one of the most popular and toughest entrance exams in the country is highly competitive. Every year, around 16 lakhs of students appear for the JEE Main and only about 1.5 lakhs get selected to appear for the JEE Advanced which is the deciding exam for students’ eligibility to get into the prestigious IITs. The JEE Advanced is considered to be one of the toughest exams for students appearing in different competitive exams. If you thought the JEE Main is tough, it is actually a walk in the park compared to the JEE Advanced. The former is conducted by the CBSE while the latter is conducted by the IITS. Each year, the IITs take turns to conduct the all-India JEE Advanced.

There are, however, other institutes besides the IITs that accept JEE Advanced scores. You can check out the list below which other institutes require students to qualify the JEE Advanced in order to get admission.

  1. Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore
  2. Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy (IIPE), Visakhapatnam
  3. Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISER), Bhopal
  4. Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISER), Mohali
  5. Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISER), Kolkata
  6. Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISER), Pune
  7. Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISER), Thiruvananthapuram
  8. Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Thiruvananthapuram
  9. Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT), Rae Bareli

How to crack JEE Advanced in one year?

While the JEE Advanced is a tough exam to beat, always aim to crack it in one year because nothing is more frustrating than having to prepare for the same exam twice or thrice in a row, although in certain isolated cases, it can be the smarter thing to do. However, try and stay focused from the beginning. Plan accordingly and execute structurally.

What makes the JEE Advanced so challenging is the fact that it has no fixed paper pattern. It is unpredictable and hence, more competitive. The exam is conducted both in the offline and online mode in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. The questions would include objective type, that is, MCQs as well as numerical questions.

While self-study is the best and most effective way to prepare for JEE Advanced, it can be complemented by engineering coaching classes to augment and give your preparation a proper direction. Remember to do your homework before you settle for any institute. Find out about the years of operation, faculty, study material used, results produced, etc, before you make a decision. This decision will not only affect your exam performance but also your entire career and even your life!
